Big Love
I just finished watching all 5 Season of Big Love today and in honor of that I thought I would count down my 5 favorite characters.
Spoilers ahead!
Favorite Characters:
5) Adaleen Grant

I had a hard time picking a number 5 because my top 4 are just so high up there but I think if I had to choose it’d be Adaleen. She’s Roman’s 6th wife but she might as well be 1st wife. She’s so dedicated to everything she does and even if she doesn’t like it she convinces herself it all must be for a greater good. She’s a great source of comic relief sometimes too. She is also a very sad and confused person and often makes the wrong decisions trying to please others. I think that scene that won me over for her being 5th is when she is laying in bed with Roman’s suit and hat and his picture, it was really touching.
4) Nicolette “Nicki” Grant

Nicki is by far my most favorite wife of Bill Henrickson probably because I can see myself in her. She feels she has lost her adolescences and struggles to deal with her life because of it. She constantly seeks the acceptance of her mother and father even when they mistreat her. She is not confident in herself and throughout the series she struggles to find herself. She also gets some of the most killer and sarcastic lines in the series. Although I like that Nicki changed for the better by the end, I much rater enjoyed the broken Nicki as a character.
3) Roman Grant

If you can’t tell by now I have a thing for the Grant family. Roman was such a great bad guy. He was so cunning, was always one step ahead, and knew how to get what he wants. He also gave one of the lines I laughed at the hardest, “More fun than a barrel of monkeys! …Moron!”. The worst worst worst decision was to kill him off. The series lacked his subtle villainy. He was just so smug about everything and I loved it.
2) Albert “Alby” Grant

Another Grant! First of all I love Alby’s fucked up relationship with Nicki and I hate hate hated when the show split them apart. I think the point where Alby really rose up in my ranks as a character was his relationship with Dale, he was just so cute about it! When he took that picture of him and Dale in bed while he was sleeping on his cell phone, adorable. And then when Dale killed himself and Alby printed off that picture and cried and cried with it, it was heart breaking. After all that time of really feeling connected to Alby the show tries to make you hate him again and make him realize he is the bad guy when he delivers the line, “Round up the dogs and poison all of them.” That was the funniest line of the whole series, it’s like, yes, oh sorry Alby is evil he poisons puppies! Didn’t work on me I still thought he was great. You could tell he was such a hurt and confused person and that’s why I like him.
1) Hollis Greene

Hollis S. Greene. What can I say? I loved the hat, the glasses, the suit, the accent, his demeanor, everything! He’s a perfect villain and I was so sad he was only in 10 of the 53 episodes, and some of them it was only very briefly. Maybe I wouldn’t have minded them killing off Roman if Hollis had be the bad guy for a whole season. Stupidest moment in the whole series was Lois chopping off his arm and him supposedly dying from it. I am personally choosing to believe that he survived the arm thing seeing as how they still had a representative for Hollis at the Safety Net meetings and the condolence card Selma got was for someone else, hell I’m going to say it could have been about Roman seeing as how Selma is his sister. Hollis was too good a bad guy to go that way. VERY TRULY YOURS, HOLLIS GREENE!
